The purpose of the recently established memorandum of understanding between the University of Maryland and the University of Sao Paulo is to promote both Centers’ mutual interest in research in food safety, food technology, predicative food microbiology and food safety risk analysis. Specific areas of collaboration include food safety risk assessment and management, food safety systems, and food defense.

Dr. Robert Buchanan, Professor and Director for the Center for Food Safety and Security Systems and Dr. Bernadette Dora Gombossy de Melo Franco, Provost, Professor and Director for the Food Research Center will be leading their respective University Centers’ collaborative efforts to further the research on food safety.
